The Nisi V6 Holder We've been waiting for this one for awhile.

I've been using it for a few weeks now and I am very happy to say this is everything they said it would be.

A rare moment of contemplation waiting for the harsh light to disappear.

I first used the V6 over the course of a few days in one of my favourite locations on the Coromandel NZ. We were expecting horrendous weather conditions, including a cyclone which didn't eventuate (kind of a shame as was hoping for lightening!) but what we got instead was calm conditions and skies that lit up like xmas trees.

The very best thing about this new design in my opinion is the screw lock system. It fixes the position of the filters and provides that security of knowing the holder is extra stable on the front of your lens. Have you noticed that you always drop something breakable when there's rocks under your tripod and never grass?

I have never actually dropped my holder when putting it on or taking it off but I have had many near misses and I've seen plenty of others do it. It's that ultra sickening feeling of waiting for the sound of a smashed filter as it hits the ground and not a thing can be done about it.

There shouldn't be any of this anymore with this new system. Ultra stable!

Grabbing some behind the scenes images.

While @brentpurcell was photographing me........

I was photographing him!

As you can see conditions were relatively calm. I used the Nisi 6 stop and .9 soft grad to smooth out any ripples in the water.

The new shaped corners of the V6 made for fast filter changes and this for me is key when the light is changing so quickly. You can now access the corners of the filters for easier insertion and removal. This really did make things a whole lot easier. I think this will come into its own for me on the cold winter days when frozen fingers just don't want to do what you want them to. Yes, I've dropped a few filters because of it but I don't think that will be an issue for me in the future with this design.

The V6 is a totally new design that Nisi has produced following feedback from photographers. I like that they listened. Change for change sake is just annoying. I believe that these changes are all ones that will make a real difference.

One thing I really like about Nisi is they think things through and try to give the best value for money always.

The holder comes with the most commonly used adapter rings.

It also comes with Enhanced Landscape CPL for enhanced natural saturation in images. The Polarizer raised CPL design makes it a ton easier to insert and remove

The V6 also comes with a new carry case with tripod mount. Although I love the hard case, this is perfect for keeping your hands free. It's also going to be useful for travelling and hiking for keeping the weight down.

Useless piece of information.... Rumour has it that dinosaurs made the footprints in these rocks.....maybe!

Even the quality of the case is great. The stitching is strong and the whole thing just looks classy. Ok so it may not be so important to some but to us girls its right up there!

The classic 1 second shot. Only possible this day with a Nisi 6stop and 1.2 graduated filter. That was some bright light.

Moving water is mesmerising. Time just seems to evaporate when your'e playing around with it.

Nisi 6 stop and .9 graduated filter.

Filters in and filters out.... the dance of the long exposure photographer.

The holder will take 3 square filters and I tried out the 10 stop, 6 stop and .9 soft graduated filters in the holder. I was a bit sceptical about this but there was absolutely no vignetting!

So fun to play around like this. The extra options this gives will be really useful.

An extremely rare photo of me showing my face....... Sneaky!

So, a comparison from the V5 to the new V6.......... The V5 is good and I've been happy with it but this V6 is all class!

In summary:

Note the angled corners. You can now grab hold of the filter to slide it in and out. So simple but so useful!

It's more compact too and less is always more. Redesigned clip system, the security of a screw lock, raised CPL system and all in a tripod mounted soft case.

YES.... the V6 gets the thumbs up from me.

Retail is $359 NZD

In the box: V6 Holder, 82mm main adaptor ring, Enhanced Landscape CPL, Soft Pouch, Adaptor rings for 67/72/72/77mm and the V6 Lens Cap

Click HERE if you want one for yourself and I will sort you out.

Huge thanks to @nisifiltersaustralia for giving me the V6 to try and to @brentpurcell who shot some of the behind the scenes images.

F-STOP Story

When asked to put something together for this feature I couldn't go past the Starry skies of Mt Cook. Everywhere awesome is only an hour or two driving from somewhere else awesome. Mountains and skiing, beaches and surfing, lakes and fishing, cities and rural. The north has it all.

So, it was with great excitement that I found myself planning a media road trip with fellow photographer @brentpurcell.nz to discover and rediscover some of the Norths finest. The icing on the cake…. I was going to travel in pure luxury with a Campervan courtesy of Wilderness New Zealand.

It was late afternoon when we pulled out of the Wilderness NZ Auckland depot in a brand new Cruise 4 with only 100km’s on the clock, and headed to Muriwai.

We made it just in time for sunset. After a great sleep it was up in the dark to see what the sunrise would bring. The rain came and went, the sky coloured up briefly and the rainbows came out to play. Not a bad way to start the day.

The plan was to visit a few of the lesser known camping spots in the Wildernessst Camping Guide so we headed towards the Coromandel Peninsular. The scenic route is a must do. We took a little wander on the Kawakawa coast road and found a gorgeous little beach called Waiti Bay. A great spot to watch the sun come up if you’re that way inclined.

We stayed at Rays Nest. It’s an endless long stretch of campervan parking right on the water between Kaiaua and Miranda. Known as the seabird coast it has an impressive number of these special little guys. It’s really best for sunrise but we were lucky to strike a spectacular sunset here. Sunrise didn’t disappoint either.

We spent the day wandering along the Thames Coast Road. I’ve been driving this road for years. There’s not many corners! In my opinion it has some of the most rugged, spectacular coastline in New Zealand. It was a little early in the year but in just a few weeks the Pohutakawa will flower and the whole coastline comes alive. There are some great freedom camping spots along here. There’s plenty of space right on the water at Waipatukahu Point Reserve and Waiomu Beach reserve is handily placed right opposite the Waiomu Café. Stop here next time you come up. The food is top level and the coffee is to die for!

Coromandel town is always worth a stop. The people are great, its laid back, a little quirky in places and has some wonderful places to eat, but this trip we needed to keep moving. We stopped for the night at McDonalds reserve, about 20 minutes north of Colville and watched the sun go down. A bit of a storm was brewing and a rather dramatic funnel cloud took over the sky. It was quite something to see.

A very early start and a rather speedy drive saw us make Granite Wharf just in time for sunrise. The wharf sits in the shadow of the Moehau mountain range. In years past the granite was transported from here across to Auckland by barge and into buildings right around the country. You can spot it in the parliament buildings in Wellington.

Further up is Fantail Bay, a favourite among fisherman, then it’s north to Port Jackson. This is a stunning beach. We stopped here for a break and some lunch. Talk about dining with a view. The Muriwai Coastal walk starts here.

Right at the end of the road is Fletchers Bay. The Coromandel Coastal walkway starts or ends here depending on your direction. There wasn’t time this trip but we’ve done the walk a few times and highly recommend it. There’s a mountain bike track as well if that’s your thing.

Heading back down we stopped to shoot sunset in a secret spot before making our way to Stony Bay. The roads a little narrow for the last ten kms but there was no traffic and you get to wake up in Paradise. This place delivered in the early morning. Super calm conditions and reflections and then the sky lit up with colour. To finish off a perfect morning the light hit the top of the mountains and all was good with the world.

Time gets away on you in the Coromandel and with only two nights to go we hit the road and made our way back to Coromandel. This time we went via Tuateawa. The roads are lined with native bush and the coast is extra rugged here.

After a quick caffeine stop in Coromandel, up the middle we went calling into Matarangi before making our way to Opoutere. Now this is a must see. We arrived at the camping spot and the tide was out so I was a bit disappointed to start with. However, a mere 10 minute walk through native bush and pine and you are at a beach so perfect you have to see it yourself to understand. I’m definitely coming back in the summer.

A quick hi to Onemana and it was on to Whangamata for the night. It was Guy Fawkes so there was plenty to see in the sky. Whangamata has a great beachy feel to it at this time of year when there’s hardly anyone around. Can get manic in the summer.

We headed over to Raglan for lunch and then out to Ruapuke. The coast is lined with sand dunes and the views are awesome.

And then it was over. Six days, 1100kms and 100 new memories.

Huge thanks to Wilderness Campervans New Zealand for making this happen.

Want your own campervan adventure?

www.wilderness.co.nz

explore@wilderness.co.nz

Talk to me about your media options

info@debclarkphotography.co.nz

Exploring The Coromandel NZ

Really excited to be exploring the north eastern tip of the Coromandel. An incredibly beautiful stretch of beach that looks straight out to the Mercury islands, popular with fisherman.

Just over the hill is Otama Bay. This place is a photographers dream with a white sandy beach, sand dunes, estuary and gorgeous pools of water reflecting the trees above. It was so good we stayed for sunset, got up at 2am to see the glactic core of the milky way and up again for sunrise. Didn’t want to leave.

Luckily you have to go past ‘Lukes’ again on the way out so that cheered me up. The food here is so good I have been back since for their pizza.

There are little bays everywhere on the Coromandel and we stopped at Rings Beach. It’s located between Kuaotunu and Matarangi, and is quiet and secluded. It was calm this day but apparently is a good spot for surfers when the swell gets up.

Back towards Coromandel Town is Whangapoa. Very popular with holiday makers as the beach is long and inviting with rocks to clamber over for the young explorers. Famous New Chums beach is just a short walk away. Didn’t get there this time but we’ll be back!
